the first international congreses

A retrospective sight from the middle of the twentieth century till the beginning of the twenty first century can only divulge the magnitude of the tremendous "revolution" at the level of the human historical experience, as features of a new era seemed to form at the level of the universal condition of the human existence. These features come together in one space "crisis space", which goes beyond a mere theoretical reflection to the level of practical management. It is true that each era has its own crises, but today the paradox is grounded upon the reflection of these multiple crises, all at once, on the state of sciences and human as well and the fear that the most advanced technical sciences loose control (The crisis of health, the crisis of environment, the crisis of demographic growth and the crisis of terrorism ...) due to the neglect of the cultural, social and cognitive dimensions, in addition to the sense of weakness facing the "cosmic crises" that threaten the human being at the core of his existence as a human being.

In this particular context and for the sack of saving the human being, all interest is focused on “human sciences” since they are bounded to human; hence they are forced to assume the scientific responsibility of confrontation of these crises. Even if they are technically incapable of putting an end to these crises, they have on the particularity of alleviating the feeling of powerlessness linked to the complex nature of these twenty first century crises by proposing research strategies and training programmes in crises management that can take into account the socio-political-cultural and ethical issues. Therefore, moving from the state of managing the world as a subject to the state of managing the world as a project.

This leads us to a functional and relational question about the essence and nature of human sciences (social, human and urban) towards the lived crises that threaten the existence of the human being, which are fundamental questions of this congress

In terms of solutions for these crises that are experienced by humanity in the twenty-first century, what can human sciences offer? (which hardly produce transformations on the levels of daily living)

Are social and human sciences theoretically and technically able to bring back a sense of humanity to the technical scientific side that is at the origin of the ecological, health and other crises?
